MT4 shows four chart windows with different currency pairs and chart style by default. From top to down, we can see “Toolbars” on above of all, “Market Watch” at the left side, “Navigator Window” below the “Market Watch”, “Chart Windows” on the middle and “Terminal” at the bottom of the screen. Now we’re going to describe each window separately.
As described in MetaTrader official website, a chart window shows the price changes for a security with the time. Charts are necessary for performing technical analysis, working of expert advisors and testing thereof. The style, colour and scheme of these charts could be modified.
Toolbars are observable below the main menu bar. The main commands used in the terminal are duplicated in the toolbars in form of buttons. All toolbars are customizable, what allows to place only necessary, often used commands in them.
Symbols for which the Client Terminal gets quotes from the server are listed in the “Market Watch” window. Below the “Market Watch” window, we can see “Symbols” and “Tick Chart” tabs. The “Tick Chart” opens the tick chart of the selected symbol and it shows the tick chart inside the “Market Watch” window.
This window allows to get a quick access to various features of the terminal. This window can be opened/closed by pressing accelerating keys of Ctrl+N or click on View > Navigator.
The list of features is listed as a tree and contains five groups: “Accounts”, “Indicators”, “Expert Advisors”, “Custom Indicators”, and “Scripts”.
“Terminal” is a multifunctional window allowing to access to various terminal features. This window allows to control over trading activities, view news and account history, set up alerts, and work with the internal mail and system journal. The window can be opened by clicking on
View > Terminals or by pressing of accelerating keys of Ctrl+T.
There are several tabs in “Terminal” window but the most important ones are:
Trade – in this tab, one can view the status of open positions and pending orders, as well as manage all trading activities. Besides, the total financial result for all open positions is published in this tab.
Exposure – this tab contains the summary information about the state of assets by all open positions.
Account History – history for all performed trade operations and balance without taking open positions into consideration are published here. The efficiency of all trade activities can be estimated with the results given in this tab.
